The Big
3 Questions are a start to making decisions about your future.
1.
What do I really love doing?
The answer
to Number 1 could be your favourite subject at school, your favourite
hobby, your favourite sport or your part-time job.
2.
What do I really want out of my life?
The answer
to Number 2 lies in your dreams about the future. Don't be surprised
if the answer to this question follows on from the answer to Number
1. Your true dreams and ambitions are usually linked to what you love
doing in life.
3.
Who do I really admire?
Sometimes
the answer to Number 3 can lead you to your ambitions. It doesn't
mean that if you think a famous actor is fantastic, you have to move
to Hollywood straight away (although go for it if you really want
to!). The people you admire can give you hints about the qualities
that you think are important in this life. You might think the coolest
guy on earth is your grandfather because he always helps other people.
Maybe it's your big brother, because he competed for Australia in
the Paralympics.
Think
carefully about who your heroes are - you will understand more about
what you value and how you want to live your own life.
Be really
honest with yourself when you are answering The Big 3.
Don't worry about what other people are thinking.
Forget about fulfilling other people's expectations.
Just focus on what your heart tells you to do.
It's the best place to start your life.
You don't
have to do this on your own - there are guides and people who are
trained in counselling and supporting young people making life decisions.
Try talking
to your favourite teacher, your parents, an older brother or sister,
your cousin. Make sure you choose to talk to people who will support
you and won't criticise your ideas. You need to be around people who
understand you and your decisions.
Become
your own hero - bravely create the life that you really want to live!
Don't
be ashamed of being freaked out about making these life decisions
- you'd be surprised how many people feel the same way you do.
Learn
how to ask for help. It's just the same as breaking down on the highway
- you might be able to change your own tyre, but sometimes you need
expert advice.
Get
yourself in gear to aim high and work full on.
Life is what you make it, seek it out, take it on.
Create your own success, live by your own creed.
Achieve the best you can, all at your own speed.
