Using a Power Meter we monitored the power consumption of our printer/copier/fax.

It uses about 50 watts of electricity in standby mode, (doing nothing but waiting to print or receive a fax).

That is like leaving 5 lights on all night!

Or 800 Watts a day,

or 160 000 Watts per school year(160KWH),

or 150 Kg of CO2 emissions.

Therefore we decided to turn the machine off during the night , weekends and holidays.

We hope this doesn't inconvenience anyone .

Maybe your school or office could make similar energy savings.
